Too often when I sit down to blog I’m constrained by the strategy of blogging itself to where the form overwhelms the fun. And that’s exactly the opposite of what happens during our music team building programs where fun is part of what drives the experience, the learning and the take-aways. So today I’m just want to talk about fun.
Fun Team Building is also Productive
- Can you ever remember laughing while being bored?
- Can you ever remember wanting to stop while laughing? (well maybe if you’re laughing so hard it hurts…!)
Engagement is a hot buzzword right now in the corporate world. Millennials demand it. A paycheck in and of itself is not enough. They want to be co-creators of their narrative both in their personal lives and in work life. As an artist, a songwriter creative type, I get that. I always wanted to be creator of my personal narrative and that’s why I had to write songs. But even in the corporate world, feeling ownership of the tasks we’re involved in is vital. This keeps us motivated and engaged.
The team building song writing process allows every participant to be a co-creator of their organizational story. But more than that, creating a song together is a learning experience. Songs take lots of information and distill many ideas into a succinct and powerful message, becoming an organization’s best elevator speech. Sort of like elevator music…ouch…I couldn’t resist the pun, however bad. But it made me laugh and that brings me back to fun.
Creating a song with our clients is fun. As we find rhymes for big ideas, little ideas and just plain off the wall ideas, people are drawn in. The energy level of the room rises exponentially as music and laughter reign. The songs our clients create become powerful take-aways and strong reminders of what it feels like to be engaged in work, with a team and as part of an organization.
That’s powerful stuff, all dressed up as a fun time.
