During the third week of March we covered a lot of musical territory with our team building programs. I was in London helping a client create songs about the work they do while Tony nominated songwriter, Lauren Lucas, led a team building Washington DC program for us. Along with our always in demand songwriter-facilitator Rusty Tabor, Lauren led the Marriott revenue management team through a fun large group session.
Team Building Goals
- This client wanted a highly interactive experience that would energize their team.
- They needed a program that would enable people to bond and make new relationships.
- They wanted a takeaway – something tangible to carry forward…
By the time we arrive on site to lead one of our programs, we’ve already spent a good deal of time working with our clients to understand not only their goals, but who they are. It’s important that the bulk of what happens during our team building programs is driven by our clients.
We don’t believe in forced activity or forced participation. We believe in giving voice to the many voices that make up each organization we work with. This process creates energy and engagement because it’s driven by our participants.
Our programs start with questions:
What do you do…
What differentiates you from your competition…
Where would you like to be a month from now, a year from now?
The answers create the narrative that becomes a shared story and ultimately a great song as people work together to celebrate the best of who they are.
Sing Your Song
Whether it’s team building in Washington DC or London, story and song provide a common language.
Even people who don’t consider themselves to be musical relate to music. Even people who don’t consider themselves to be storytellers have a story to tell.
When we marry the authenticity of shared story with the emotion of music the result is a powerful take-away – the company song…Your Song.
