Austin, known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” has a rich musical history that shapes its unique identity. Austin’s music scene has always reflected its creative spirit, from its roots in folk, blues, and country to its embrace of rock, indie, and beyond.
The city’s vibrant music culture began to flourish in the early 20th century, with venues like the Victory Grill becoming pivotal stops on the “Chitlin’ Circuit,” showcasing legendary blues and jazz performers. In the 1970s, Austin became a haven for outlaw country artists like Willie Nelson, who helped redefine the genre and put Austin on the musical map.
Today, Austin’s music scene is more diverse than ever, with iconic events like South by Southwest (SXSW) and Austin City Limits (ACL) Festival celebrating artists across all genres. Despite our growth into a global company, we cherish our roots in Austin, where it all began. We have established ourselves as a leader in team building in this vibrant city by continually adapting and expanding our client base, including loyal returning clients and new groups.
Austin Team Building Through Song
- Led by our team of hit songwriters, we kick off your program with an introduction that creates context and entertains.
- We break into teams. Each team creates a song based on their shared experience. We explain rules of brainstorming – there are no bad ideas, no judgment, so everyone feels comfortable contributing. Our facilitators play melodies and keep the atmosphere in the room relaxed, fun and inclusive. Ideas flow as we identify possible song titles or ‘hooks’ that emerge from the group brainstorming.
- We choose song titles and write the choruses encompassing the big ideas & themes. There’s always lots of interaction and laughter as participants take their ideas and make them rhyme with the previous ideas. We then create our song verses.
- When the songs are finished each team records their creation and then gets ready for team performances. Teams are encouraged to use percussion instruments, harmonicas and follow their imagination.
- Team performances with awards – everyone participates, both competing yet cheering the other teams.
- After the event: Audio recordings and lyric downloads of all your songs.
Our Austin team building programs provide opportunity to do something you probably haven’t done before; an out of the box experience that will help you celebrate team success.
General Sessions or Keynotes
- This conference song session works for groups up to a few thousand people. And it’s also great for groups staring at about 100 people and up.
- As with all our programs, we’ll learn about your organization and your goals prior to your event. We’ll create a custom opening performance and a road map to ensure we meet your goals.
- We kick off the session by setting context and then we transition into a musical performance to break the ice.
- After our program introduction, our songwriter-leaders move throughout the crowd as we get everyone involved. We’ll ask questions to get ideas flowing as themes and lyric suggestions fill video screens in the room. Participants share ideas via microphones. For large groups, we also use an audience response app to ensure that there’s plenty of hands-on engagement.
- Everyone has an opportunity to contribute as we lead small group work within the larger session. You’ll work together and then share your ideas back with the entire group as your song takes shape.
- We provide opportunities for people to play tambourine, percussion or sing with us. But there’s never pressure to perform.
- This interactive session culminates with everyone on their feet as we perform and record your song. Not only are we helping you tell your story through song, we’re building a fun and motivational performance as everyone joins in, creating a powerful sing along.
- Audio recordings of your song will be available after your event.
Small Groups
We often work with small groups. In fact, we pride ourselves on being a leader in these types of sessions.
Small groups provide both unique opportunity and unique challenge. There’s opportunity for a high level of engagement from everyone on your team. But there’s no place to hide! So we’ve become adept at helping everyone to feel comfortable.
And there are additional options for smaller groups. For example, you can hold your event in a recording studio or at one of Austin’s many great smaller performance venues. You can create a music video as part of your group songwriting and recording.
