I’ve lost my share of Nashville team building work because people are afraid to sing. I’ve heard the following comment more than a few times, “I love the idea, but my VP is scared to do anything that puts himself out there. I think we’re going to go bowling instead…” Hey, I think bowling can be risky too, at least if you bowl like I do. But on a serious note, I’d like to de-stigmatize the fear of singing. When it comes to our music team building events, the fear is about the fear itself. The singing is actually quite fun, and quite safe.
If These Two Can Do It So Can You!
I’m being a bit facetious by using the following example because let’s face it, Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere are professional actors. But these two do all their own singing in the TV show, “Nashville”. Since they’re portraying country music stars, they really have to put it out there. But in our Nashville team building program you won’t be put on the spot. You will help create your corporate story through song. You will brainstorm with your teammates. You’ll create lyrics about what you all do and what makes your work experience special. And when you’ve created your special lyric, our hit songwriter-facilitators will lead you through a melody. At that point you’ll be part of an enthusiastic group, a team actually. Nooooo, you won’t ever have to solo, and you can always lip sync. But here’s the thing, you won’t want to lip sync. I promise you!
Nashville Team Building Sings Without Fear
We recently worked with a group of attorneys who were dragged into our music team building program against their will. Their head of operations wore them down until they finally agreed to show up for Team Building Through Song®. By the time this group finished creating their song they felt so much ownership in what they’d done that they forgot they were supposed to be fearful and inhibited. In other words, they were fully engaged in a fun, creative experience. Once that happens, fear isn’t an issue. But creativity and laughter reign. You’ll forget you’re singing because you’ll truly be in the moment.
- Innovation won’t happen if you only talk about it
- At some point you have to take a risk, even a small one
- Become a participant – You’ll be glad you did
