Okay, I’m obsessive, I admit it. When that obsession is trained on making your company’s team building activity an amazing experience, that’s a good thing. But when I’m in my office working on strategic planning for my own business, I tend to get bogged down in the details. Even though I know this about myself I can’t help it. I spent the first part of today researching SEO options, reading about inbound marketing choices for small businesses and learning about internet cookies. I was long past burn out, and working in circles when the mail came. And there they were, a box of real cookies. Homemade, three dimensional, baked goods. They were a graduation present from Jessica Levin of Seven Degrees Communications. I hired Jessica to consult for me last June, with an initial three month commitment that stretched into ten months. I learned lots about smart planning, social media engagement, brick and mortar engagement and old fashioned marketing. That’s where the cookies come in. What good is social media if there’s not also real connections? At some point virtual has to become three dimensional and Jessica’s a master at helping clients understand all the connections we need to make to grow our businesses in today’s environment. I’m using virtual cookies to enable my Nashville based team building company to grow into a world wide organization but there’s nothing like the value of real cookies to sustain, appreciate and grow real relationships.
So now I’m about to tackle inbound marketing – I didn’t even know what that meant a few weeks ago. Hey, I didn’t even know what B2B meant until a few months ago. I am after all a musician and teacher at heart. I love what I do, it’s not always easy. And when it gets hard, it’s nice to know we’ve got real friends and colleagues to help out. Isn’t that what sustaining and building a team is all about?
